01 Mar Christianity is a Lifestyle
Many Christians today claim of their faith and their love for Jesus but fail to live a life pleasing to God. Some think Christianity is a label, some think it’s just believing in Jesus. However it is not that easy to be a Christian. You have to life a righteous lifestyle. You can’t call yourself a Christian but don’t go to church, don’t pray, don’t repent, don’t try to be like Jesus Christ. It’s like saying you’re a doctor but never went to medical school and never worked at a hospital as a doctor. Just because you believe you’re a doctor, doesn’t mean it’s true. If you believe you’re a Christian but don’t act or think like a Christian, then you’re not a Christian. You’re living a delusion. We’ll list scriptures on how Christianity is a lifestyle.
1. Keeping the Commandments
First and foremost as a Christian, you will have to follow the commandments. To have faith, you must also be faithful to God. Following commandments is a way of life. You can’t just follow one without the other.
“If you love me, obey my commandments. – John 14:15
“You must faithfully keep all my commands by putting them into practice, for I am the LORD. – Leviticus 22:31
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. – John 14:23
When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. – John 15:10
“‘But the children rebelled against me: They did not follow my decrees, they were not careful to keep my laws, of which I said, “The person who obeys them will live by them,” and they desecrated my Sabbaths. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and spend my anger against them in the wilderness. – Ezekiel 20:21
2. Leaving Your Old Self Behind
Jesus Christ did not die for us to live a sinful life. Jesus Christ died so we won’t have to go to Hell due to Adam’s disobedience. Once you believe in Christ, you should live a life as such. Once you repent and start following Christ, or being a born again Christian, you leave your old sinful life behind. The past is forgotten through repentance, and you’re living a new life by having Christ in you. So you must live a life similar to Christ. This is a way of life.
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! – 2 Corinthians 5:17
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. – Galatians 2:20
We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. – Romans 6:6
Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? – Mark 8:34-36
3. Not Following the Ways of the World
By living through Christ, you can not follow the trends and way of thinking of this world. Since we were born of sin, we have a sinful nature that we are not aware of. By following the ways of the world, you’re worshiping Satan and his demons.
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. – Romans 12:2
You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. – James 4:4
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” – Matthew 6:24
For everything in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–comes not from the Father but from the world. – 1 John 2:16
4. Faith With Good Works
Some people claim just by believing in Jesus, you’re saved. However if you’re not doing what is right in God’s eyes by doing good deeds then it means nothing to claim that you’re a Christian.
So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. – James 2:17
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. – John 14:12
“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. – Matthew 7:21
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life. – Ephesians 2:10
5. Praying Daily
You can’t be a Christian without praying daily. This the biggest part of the way of life for Christians.
Never stop praying. – 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. – Luke 18:1
Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. – Ephesians 6:18
For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding. – 1 Corinthians 14:14-15
Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. – James 5:13
6. Resist Satan & His Demons
Resisting Satan is part of being a Christian. Not only resist Satan but everything that is not of God including negative thoughts and emotions. This is a way of life for Christians.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. – James 4:7
Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. – Ephesians 6:11
And give no opportunity to the devil. – Ephesians 4:27
7. Fellowship with the Holy Spirit
Getting to know the Holy Spirit and developing a relationship with him is the way of life for Christians. It is easier to live a righteous life when you’re lead by the Holy Spirit.
So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. – 1 John 1:6
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. – Romans 8:9
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. – 2 Corinthians 13:14
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. – Ephesians 4:30
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. – Ephesians 5:18
