16 Jan How to Nourish Your Soul
Just like your body, you have to nourish your soul. Unlike your physical body, your soul is worth more than anything on this Earth. This is why Jesus Christ asked, “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” – Matthew 16:26.
1. Reading or Listening to the Bible
The Bible is not an ordinary book. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness
so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17. If the Bible is God-breathed and came out of God’s mouth then it is a spirit of God. While you’re reading the Bible, God is reading you thus nourishing your soul.
2. Praise & Worship
Whenever you praise or worship God from the heart, his kingdom comes down to you. Whenever there is the presence of the Lord, there’s joy, happiness, and hope thus nourishing the soul (Psalm 16:11, Psalm 39:7).
3. Christian Music
No matter what style, any music that magnifies God and gives encouragement to us as Christians nourishes the soul. Christian music also keep evil spirits away temporarily (1 Samuel 16:23).
4. Christian TV, Movies, Documentaries
Anything that teaches the word of God nourishes the soul. Faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ. – Romans 10:17.
5. Christian Books
Reading about other Christians’ experiences nourishes the soul because it brings encouragement and hope in humanity. There are many books on how to walk with God, operate in the spiritual realm, fast, and other things needed to edify the soul.
6. Love Others
Loving others is a great way to nourish the soul. It is impossible to nourish your soul without loving other human beings. The Bible made it clear that we must love others like we love ourselves (Matthew 22:39). Any negative thoughts against others, such as racism and sexism, are cancer to the soul. As Christians we are to encourage people and build them up (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
Communication with God is a the best way to nourish your soul. This is why we should pray constantly. One type of prayer that you should practice daily is thanksgiving because you are humbling yourself and appreciating God. Gratitude is the right attitude for the kingdom of Heaven (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
8. Meditating on God’s Word
The more you meditate on God’s word, the more darkness (sinful thoughts) is pushed out from the light of God’s word (John 1:4-5, 2 Corinthians 4:6). This is why God commanded us to meditate on the Bible day and night (Joshua 1:8).
9. Attending Church & Christian Events
Attending Christian events will nourish your soul greatly at one time because you get to do many soul edifying things such as worship, hearing God’s word, praying, and being around other Christians (Acts 2:46-47).
10. Fasting & Eating Healthy
As fasting kills your flesh, it nourishes the soul. As you fast, you are humbling yourself in the presence of God. Eating healthy promotes a healthy lifestyle in order for you to use your brain and body to do the things to nourish your soul. You can’t nourish your soul if you eat junk that makes your thinking and movements sluggish.
