07 Jan The Importance of Being in One Accord
In the early churches mentioned in the Book of Acts, the members were in one accord and one mind. They had everything in common (Acts 2:44). Being in one mind and spirit, they always prayed and broke bread together (Philippians 2:2, Acts 1:14, Acts 2:46).
Today, modern churches are not operating in one accord. There are many denominations in Christianity. Some denominations are even claiming they are the true church while the others are fake. This should be very alarming to us as Christians because the Bible states we should all be in one accord and one mind. We will list in detail the importance of being in one accord and one mind.
1. All About Christ
Jesus Christ is the only reason Christianity was established. He died on the cross in order for anyone who believe in him to have eternal life (John 6:40, 1 Timothy 1:16). Without Jesus Christ, there is no Christianity. Without Christ being the main focus of the church, the church loses its power.
2. The Body of Christ
The church is described as the body of Christ (Romans 12:4-5, 1 Corinthians 12:27, . If you see an anatomy of any living creature, you can see every organ inside any living creature has a role to play. The organs function in one beat which is conducted by the signals of the heart and the brain.
The Bible states, The body is a unit, though it is comprised of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink. – 1 Corinthians 12:12-13. Christ being the head of the church, expects us to be in one accord looking unto him as the source of growth spiritually and in size (Ephesians 4:15, Colossians 2:19).
3. Imitators of God
God has lead the example about what it means to be in one accord. He shown this through the Holy Trinity; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All three worked in one accord to create all things ( Genesis 1:1-2:7). As children of God, we are expected to imitate him (Ephesians 5:1).
4. Strengthens the Church
Being in one accord strengthens the church as a whole. Jesus Christ said that, If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. – Mark 3:24-25, Matthew 12:25, Luke 11:17. This is why Paul rebuked the church members among who following who according to who baptized them (1 Corinthians 1:10-31).
5. Resisting Satan
Satan does not like seeing the children of God in unity. His top mission is to divide the church in order to infiltrate his demonic teachings through his agents (1 Timothy 4:1-2). Today some denominations forbid certain people to marry and to not eat certain foods (1 Timothy 4:3). Some denominations identify Jesus Christ to Archangel Michael (Hebrews 1:4-5). Some practice idolatry with the virgin Mary (Galatians 5:19-21). The Bible states that we need to be aware of the schemes of the devil. We need resist him by submitting to God and putting on the full armor (James 4:7, Ephesians 6:11, Ephesians 4:14).
So let us be of one mind, one spirit, and in one accord.
