26 Mar The Importance of Tithing
To tithe or not to tithe? If you are a born again Christian, tithing is one of the things you should do while attending church. Many people are spreading heresy that tithing in not required anymore. Even to the point of quoting scriptures that describes tithing as only for Hebrews concerning crops. However tithing today is giving 10% or more of your income to a church you associate yourself with (Luke 18:12). We will list 10 reasons why tithing is important. We will list 7 reasons why tithing is important.
1. God’s Tax
Once we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior, we become citizens of the kingdom of God (Philippians 3:20, 2 Corinthians 5:20). In this world, most countries have taxes that are required for their citizens to pay. Tithe is the tax for the kingdom of God. Jesus Christ made this clear with the Pharisees.
Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s. – Matthew 22:19-21. We as humans are made in the image of God, so tithing is rendering the things of God’s.
2. Symbolic Image of Tithing
The Bible paints a picture of tithing with in the scene of Abraham and Melchizedek. Melchizedek is a foreshadowing representation of Christ. He gave Abraham wine and bread (Genesis 14:18). Bread represents the word of God (Deuteronomy 8:3, John 6:48 John 1:14). Wine represents the blood of Christ which is salvation (John 6:53, Revelation 12:11, Matthew 26:26-28). After Melchizedek gave his blessings, Abraham gave him 10% of everything he has (Genesis 14:19-20). We are not only children of God but also of Abraham through having faith (Galatians 3:7). Faith without deeds is dead faith (James 2:26).
3. Being Grateful
Tithing shows your gratitude towards God because he was the one who blessed you with a way to make money. But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. – Deuteronomy 8:18.
God bless those who tithes. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. – Malachi 3:10.
5. Tithing Never Left
Some people think that giving tithes is reserved in the old covenant or law. However in the new testament, people who attended churches gave tithes & offerings. On the first day of each week, you should each put aside a portion of the money you have earned. Don’t wait until I get there and then try to collect it all at once. – 1 Corinthians 16:2.
6. Don’t be a Thief
God doesn’t take favor in people who doesn’t tithe to the church they attend regularly. The reason is that God consider that you’re stealing from him.“Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing me!” “How do we rob you?” you ask. “By not making the payments of the tenth and the contributions. – Malachi 3:8.
7. Following Commandments
Jesus told the pharisees about the two greatest commandments that men should follow. Tithing is part of these commandments. If you love your neighbor as yourself you would have a desire to tithe. Your pastor is considered your neighbor. If you love God with all your heart, you would have a desire to tithe.
8. Church Appreciation
If you love your church and attend it regularly, you should have a desire to support it. The upkeep of a church is very expensive. The upkeep includes, rent or mortgage, electricity, water, internet service, etc.
9. Better to Give than to Hoard
God loves for his children to give and not to hoard (Acts 20:35). Hoarding shows that you’re selfish which is not of God. “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.” – Luke 12:21.
10. Open Doors to the Enemies
Whenever you walk into disobedience you leave doors open for the enemies to attack your finances, health, relationships, etc. Not tithing falls into disobedience. Satan love to trick Christians not to tithe in order to steal your blessing (John 10:10). Do not give the devil a foothold – Ephesians 4:27.
So don’t be deceived. We are living in the end times where people are falling from faith and follow doctrines of demons (1 Timothy 4:1). This is why it is important to have a relationship with the Holy Spirit. He is supposed to teach us all things (John 14:26). Then no one can deceive you.
