Parallels Between Jesus and Solomon

1. Both Rode on a Donkey as King Announcement

Solomon rode on a mule, which a donkey/horse breed. He was anointed as king (1 Kings 1:33-34). Jesus Christ was riding on a donkey and colt to Jerusalem. Before he did, he quoted this scripture to his disciples, “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” (Matthew 21:5, Zechariah 9:9).

 

2. Both Called the Son of David

Solomon was the son of David from Bathsheba (2 Samuel 12:24). His title throughout the Bible is the son of David before Christ (2 Chronicles 1:1, Proverbs 1:1, Ecclesiastes 1:1). Jesus Christ is called the son of David in various times in the New Testament (Matthew 21:9, Matthew 15:22, Matthew 20:31, Mark 10:48).

 

3. God Established Both Men’s Kingdom

God established Solomon’s kingdom (2 Chronicles 1:1). God established Jesus Christ’s kingdom forever (2 Samuel 7:12-15).

 

4. Wisdom from God

Both men had wisdom directly from God while they were on Earth (1 Kings 5:12, 1 Kings 4:30, Matthew 12:42, Matthew 7:29).

 

5. Popularity

People from all over came to hear from both men. People from all nations came to listen to Solomon (1 Kings 4:34). Throughout the gospels, people from different regions came to hear from Jesus Christ and receive miracles (John 6:2, Mark 10:1, Luke 8:4, Luke 8:40, Mark 7:24-26).

 

6. Both Called Teacher

In Ecclesiastes, Solomon is titled as teacher (Ecclesiastes 1:1). Jesus Christ’s disciples refer him as rabbi which is teacher (John 20:16, John 1:38, John 1:49, Mark 14:45, Mark 11:21).

 

7. Kingdom Established After Defeating Enemies

Solomon’s kingdom was established in his hands after he destroyed all his father’s enemies (1 Kings 2:5-46). Jesus Christ’s kingdom was established in his after he defeated all his father’s enemies (Colossians 2:14-15, 1 John 3:8, 1 Corinthians 15:24-27,Revelation 1:18).
