10 Aug Top Misconceptions about the Bible
There are some misconceptions about the Bible that some “scholars” have created in order to turn many away from the gospel. The Bible has warned us about these type of scholars. Anyone whose teaching is a contradiction to the Bible is considered a false teacher. But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves. – 2 Peter 2:1. We are going to clear up all the top misconceptions about the Bible.
1. The Bible Contradicts How Old the Earth is
Many people argue how old the Earth really is. Scientists state that it is 4 billion years old and Creationists claim it is only 6,000 years old based on when Adam and Eve was created. However the Bible doesn’t state how old the Earth is. It only states, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. – Genesis 1:1-2. However in the Torah, the 2nd verse is actually translated And the Earth “became” chaos… So there was a world before our world. This would explain why we have discovered ancient fossils of dinosaurs, giants, and ape-like people. Click here to read more about how the world was destroyed and scriptures showing this.
2. The Bible was invented by Romans to Pacify the Poor
There is a theory that has been spreading around like wild fire that the Bible including Jesus Christ was invented by the Romans. This rumor seemed to be backed up by “biblical scholars”. However this theory is not true and should not be taken to heart.
Quick History of the Bible
The Bible contains 66 books written by great men of God who were led by the Holy Spirit. The Old testament, which is The Torah, contains prophesies about Jesus Christ as the Messiah which was written thousands of years before the Roman Empire was established. The Bible was not original written in the Romans’ language, Latin. The New Testament was originally written in Greek, and the Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew.
Persecutions of Christians in the Roman Empire
If The Roman Empire in fact invented the Bible and the idea of Jesus Christ, there wouldn’t have been persecutions of Christians throughout their history. Christians were persecuted because they didn’t worship Roman gods in the Roman temples or the emperors. When Christianity rapidly grew, Roman temples, idol makers, and other related businesses were losing money. Then Christians became scapegoats thus the persecutions started. The persecutions on Christians ended when Constantine I came into power.
3. The Bible is Not Reliable Due to Many Translations
As of October 2017 the Bible has been translated into 670 languages. Due to this many think that translation of languages means that stories are somewhat distorted. However that is not the case. If you read a parallel Hebrew and English Bible, you will see that the English translation of the Hebrew words are similar. The stories in the Bible are the same in Hebrew as it is in English. We also have access to sacred ancient Hebrew texts online that expand on the Old Testament in the Bible.
4. Bible Contains Stories Beyond Science Explanation
From the story of Noah’s ark to The Book of Jonah, some believe that the Bible is full of myths. This could be due to what we as human were taught in school on logic. There has to be an explanation for everything. If there isn’t an explanation, then it is in one’s imagination. However today many are experiencing things that are beyond science explanation including see extraordinary beings, coming back from the dead (Hell and Heaven), being recovered from sicknesses/ injuries without doctor intervention, etc. Science only use one word to explain all these –delusion.
Don’t be Deceived
So don’t be deceived by men who hold dear to the wisdom of this world and not the wisdom of God. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.” And again, “The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise; he knows they are worthless.” – 1 Corinthians 3:19-20. The wise being anyone who rely on their own understanding and knowledge that the world gives them. However cling to the words of prophets and teachers of the true living God. You should think of us as Christ’s servants, who have been put in charge of God’s secret truths. – 1 Corinthians 4:1. However stay clear for false teachers and false prophets who teaches what is contrary to God’s word in order to sway you from living a life that pleases God.
