Prayer 101

Praying is the most important part of being a Christian. It is a way to communicate to God through the name Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. There are different types of prayers.

1. Thanksgiving Prayers

Refer to Psalm 136 for this type of prayer to give thanks to God. Every day you should take the time set a separate prayer thanking God for everything he has done for you.

2. Prayer for Repentance

Everyday we sin without knowing in the eyes of the Lord so we need to pray for God to give us mercy and forgive our sins. It’s not only evil actions that define sin, it’s also evil thoughts. But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matthew 5:28.

3. Prayer for Daily Living

Pray to our heavenly father with the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13). Also pray for protection anywhere you go and for favor.

4. Faith Prayer

Pray to God to all your heart. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. James 5:15.

5. Prayer of Request

This is a popular type of prayer. Ask God for whatever you need. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6.

6. Prayer of Worship

This prayer is similar to Thanksgiving prayer but this type of prayer focuses on how awesome is God. This type of prayer you should focus on how gracious, merciful, and great God has been to us and others. You can also sing praises for 5 minutes before a prayer of request. It is also good to take at least an hour signing praise to God.

7. Prayer of Intercession

This type of prayer is praying for another person, may it be your mother or a stranger you pass by.

Make sure to also use bible quotes while prayer to God. The Bible is the Lord’s word and you can never go wrong quote bible scripture while praying. Share ways what type of prayers help get closer to God.
