18 May Scriptures to About Anger & Resentment
As humans living in this Earth with other humans, we will get angry for one reason or another. However it is a problem when anger and resentment takes control of your life. Here are scriptures to use with prayer and to embed in your heart in order to overcome anger and resentment.
1. No Foothold for Satan
And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. – Ephesians 4:26-27.
2. Wisdom Yields Patience
A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. – Proverbs 19:11.
3. Ask for Wisdom
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5.
4. Self Control is Important
Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city. – Proverbs 16:32.
5. Do Not Fret
Do not be angry and frustrated! Do not fret! That only leads to trouble! – Psalm 37:8.
6. Fools Lose Their Tempers
A fool always loses his temper, But a wise man holds it back. – Proverbs 29:11.
7. Anger is In Bosom of Fools
Do not be eager in your heart to be angry, For anger resides in the bosom of fools. – Ecclesiastes 7:9.
8. Anger Does Not Produce Righteousness
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. – James 1:19-20.
9. Conflict Follows Anger
A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel. – Proverbs 15:18.
10. Anger Isolates People from Others
Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared. – Proverbs 22:24-25.
11. Don’t Show Your Anger
A fool’s anger is known at once, But a prudent man conceals dishonor. – Proverbs 12:16.
12. Anger Grieves the Holy Spirit
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. – Ephesians 4:30-31.
13. Get Rid of Anger
But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. – Colossians 3:8.
14. Angry People Don’t Go to Heaven
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. – Galatians 5:19-21.
15. Angry People Go to Hell
But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell. – Matthew 5:22.
16. Love Your Neighbor as Yourself
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” – Galatians 5:14.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. – 1 John 4:16.
