11 Jan Who is Satan?
Many people today don’t believe Satan is real. Some think Satan is a metaphor for mankind’s flaws. However Satan is real as well as principalities who work under him. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12 Think of Satan as the opposite of the Holy Spirit. Even though you can’t see the Holy Spirit, you can hear him in your thoughts when he give you good thoughts and help you stray away from sin. Satan is the opposite of him. Satan is also in your thoughts to steer you into committing sins and nag you with bad thoughts. Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? – Acts 5:3
Satan was the highest rank archangel who was close to God. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, chrysolite and emerald, topaz, onyx and jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. – Ezekiel 28:13-14. He ranked higher than Michael and Gabriel before his fall. Satan wanted to be like God so much that he made his throne in space which is the 2nd Heaven. For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north. – Isaiah 14:13. He conspire an rebellious army of the angels in Heaven. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. – Revelation 12:4.
How Sin Affects Him
As you sin, he becomes more powerful because he feeds off of our sins. This is why God states when Eve was tricked by the serpent, “You will eat dust all the days of your life” (Genesis 3:14). In the beginning of the Bible he was a serpent but in the end of the Bible he was a dragon. The great dragon was hurled down–that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. Revelation 12:9.
Why is he so dangerous?
Satan is dangerous because he’s a great manipulator and liar. Satan was the closest angel to God before the betrayal, so he is very familiar with God’s word. This is demonstrated when he tempted Jesus. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'” Matthew 4:6 Not only does Satan have great knowledge on the Bible and how God works. Since he was a fallen angel and never had his powers taken away, he can transform into an angel.
The Bible tells what to do to win the battle over Satan. We have to sober, watchful, and more prayerful. Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2 No matter what takes keep your connection to God.
