Who is the Holy Spirit?

Some think the Holy Spirit is a force or ghost but he is the third person of the Holy Trinity. He is as real as you and me. He can smell, see, taste, touch, and have emotions like us. He has a body just like us. This is explained in the first book of the bible. Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.. Genesis 1:26.

The Holy Spirit is able to be Grieved.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. – Ephesians 4:30.

The Holy Spirit is able to be Blasphemed Against.

“But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.” – Mark 3:29.

The Holy Spirit is able to be Lied to.

Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.” When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. – Acts 5:3-5.

The Holy Spirit Teaches.

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. – John 14:26.

The Holy Spirit has Personality Traits

The Holy Spirit has personality traits in which he embeds in us when we walk in the spirit. Read this on our article: Fruit of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit Comforts.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. – John 14:26.

Why is the Holy Spirit so important?

Jesus mentions the importance of the Holy Spirit to be in you. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. – John 3:5-6. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth. – John 4:24. Jesus knew the importance of the Holy Spirit because he has been with Jesus from the beginning. Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus was able to be born of a virgin, fast for 40 days, perform miracles, and raise from the dead (Romans 8:11).

The Holy Spirit teaches us all things including reminding us of the word (John 14:26). He also helps us to be rid of evil spirits such as envy, jealousy, depression, low self esteem, etc. The Holy Spirit is the only way we can renew our minds to know what is pleasing to God (Romans 12:2). This is why through Jesus, God the father gave us the Holy Spirit to abide in us forever (John 14:16-17).

How do you receive the Holy Spirit?

1. Accept Jesus Christ

If you can’t accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and that he is God or Son of God, you can never receive the Holy Spirit since he part of the Holy Trinity. Just as the Father and Son is one, so is the Holy Spirit with both the Son and the Father. For it is written, But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. – John 16:14

2. Repentance

Confess all your sins, repent, and don’t look back from your former sinful life. The Holy Spirit wants to reside in body of temples that is for Christ. You can’t expect to receive the Holy Spirit when you’re having pre-marital sex, one night stands, hate in your heart, etc. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, – 1 Corinthians 6:19.

3. Water Baptism

Water baptism symbolizes the death of your old self and the beginning of your new self with Christ (Romans 6:4). After this you can receive the Holy Spirit to reside in you. The image of this is the baptism of Jesus Christ (Matthew 3:13-17). Another image of this when Paul baptized people in Ephesus who were baptized by John (Acts 19:1-6).

4. Invitation

Just simply for the baptism of the Holy Spirit when you pray in the name of Jesus.  So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” – Luke 11:13.
