19 Mar Why You Should Fear Only God
Most people have a fear of something, may it be fear of death, fear of cats, fear of rejection, fear of social gatherings etc. However the Bible states that you should fear nothing else but God. The reason for this is once you fear something that is not God, you’re making that thing more important than God. For example if you have a fear of cats. Every time you see a cat, you freak out, find a way to go to another direction from where the cat is. You end up thinking about how much that car put fear in you. Before you know it, you’re finding ways how to avoid cats including mapping your daily routes, taking medication, and seeing a psychiatrist. Fear of anything else but God is an attack by the enemies. It is not of God. For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and of love, and of self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:7. Here are reasons why you should fear only God.
God love those who are afraid of him. He blesses them with long life and prosperity. He will bless those who fear the LORD, both great and lowly. Psalm 115-13. The only way to receive blessings is to fear God.
2. God Sees Everything
God has his eyes on everything including what’s inside your heart. God knows if you’re doing good deeds for with a good or bad motive. And I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am he who searches mind and heart, and I will give to each of you according to your works. – Revelation 2:23.
3. Because He is God
This is simple. God made the everything. God knows the past, present, and future. The Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit is the true living God unlike other “gods”. For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. – 1 Chronicles 16:25-26.
Once you fear God, you get the wisdom not of this world. You will start to notice things you have never noticed before about yourself and others you’re around. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. – Psalm 111-10.
5. Demons Fear God
James mentioned this when he was writing about faith and good deeds. You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. – James 2:19.
Jesus warned his disciples about Hell. He also made it clear that you should fear God more than anyone due to being sent to Hell. “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in Hell. – Matthew 10:28.
You should fear God enough to follow his commandments and instructions. However you shouldn’t fear God as you would fear a tyrant. However you should fear God as you would fear your father. You don’t fear in tremble of your father but you have so much respect for him that you don’t want to disappoint him. This is how you should fear God. God hates sin but he love us enough to give us his blood, through Jesus, and spirit, through the Holy Spirit, in order to become holy. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. – 1 John 4:18.
